Colour Therapy

Every day we are effected by colour, from the decoration of our home to adverts carefully planned to make us buy more. Even our the colour of the clothes that we wear can influence our mood.

Every colour in the spectrum vibrates at its own particular rate, and each part of our body resonates to a different colour. When we are out of balance, ill or distressed, we can use colour to harmonise our vibrations and restore balance. By balancing our ‘energetic body’ we can also create harmony in our physical body.

The psychological language of colour is easily learnt, for example warm and expansive colours such as yellow or orange bring a feeling of excitement or joy, cool blues and indigos calm down a temperament. When well and in balance there may not be a preference for any particular colour, but if there is a pull to a certain colour, it is generally because this is the very colour needed to bring the energetic body back to balance.

Ways to use colour

Home decor

Use colour to create useful atmospheres in your home. For instance, a red bedroom could over stimulate and lead to sleepless nights, however indigo would calm and induce sleep and can even help headaches.

Colour breathing

This technique is easy to master, simply imagine that every time you take a breath, the air you inhale is the colour you choose. It may help to focus on something of that colour. For instance if you wanted to colour breathe green, you might focus on a patch of fresh dew covered grass, or the leaves of an oak tree. If you use something to focus on during this exercise, try to make it something you like and can find the beauty in. Crystals are often very useful for this.

Fabric

Boost healing or enhance a mood by choosing your clothes with the colour you are working with in mind. Having selection of different coloured silk scarves is an excellent way to be able to access the healing powers of colour. Placing a silk square behind your head of the colour you need is often enough to ease tension and stress.

Food

Eating can be a good way to absorb the vibration of colours. Always choose fresh wholesome foods. Avoid additives or processed foods and do not use a microwave. Even dieting can be aided by paying attention to colour. For instance, eating, drinking and wearing yellow can help to eliminate excess body fat, while doing the same with blue can encourage weight gain.
